A blanket national giveaway, to everyone aged 55-years-old and above, from a Maidenhead mortgage broker this is not. Can you imagine? At around seven million people in the UK aged 55 and over, that would amount to a staggering £385,000,000!
However, what we’re about to reveal is still a pretty good giveaway to those considering the benefits of equity release mortgages(although we’ll be referring to equity release mortgages as lifetime mortgages in this piece). Okay, then. So, what exactly is it.
Lifetime mortgage deal
Despite being a Berkshire mortgage broker, we’re not actually referring to the best UK lifetime mortgage deals in this instance. We’re actually referring to our deal to you.
From September until the end of November, the deal is that anyone aged 55 and over (the requirement for lifetime mortgage applicants) who books and attends a lifetime mortgage consultation with one of our Maidenhead mortgage advisers will receive an Amazon gift card with a value of £55.
Why? Because as a lifetime mortgage specialist – and as an advocate of lifetime mortgages – we’re keen to build our growing portfolio of happy lifetime mortgage customers. And the least we can do, by way of thanks for choosing us, is to give something back.
It really is that simple. Just book a consultation by calling a member of the Alton Mortgages team on 01628 560820 or by emailing enquiries@altonmortgages.co.uk.
What to consider before getting a lifetime mortgage
Before you get in touch – or, at least, before you apply for a lifetime mortgage – there are a few key elements to consider.
However, our mortgage brokers in Maidenhead will gladly walk you through the pros and cons of lifetime mortgages, so that you’re informed enough to make a decision that best suits you.
In the meantime, here are our top three things to think about:
1. Stay protected
When getting a lifetime mortgage, it’s crucial that you only take a mortgage from a lender that’s regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Not only that, but make sure that the lender (and preferably the broker) is a member of the Equity Release Council, too. In doing so, you’ll remain protected throughout the term of the lifetime mortgage.
2. Consider your benefits
No, not the benefits of lifetime mortgages, but any benefits you might be receiving. Lifetime mortgages are great in the fact that they release large sums of money. However, an injection of money is likely to impact means-tested benefits, so it’s worth keeping this in mind.
3. Inheritance
Through lifetime mortgages, you can easily access money currently stored in bricks and mortar. However, the loan has to be repaid at the point you die or move into care. So, if you’ve spent the money you’ve freed up, then you’re going to have less to pass on to your heirs after the loan has been repaid.
4. A long-term commitment
Just as the name suggests, lifetime mortgages are a lifetime commitment. So, before you sign on the line, it’s worth exploring other options to access money, such as downsizing or drawing on different assets. If you have explored alternative routes, then a lifetime mortgage could be the ideal product for you.
